Industry Feedback

Bring your own Animation Event

26th of October 2022

Bring your own animation is an event where animators can show and get feedback on their work from professional animators. We get the chance to meet animators from different studious and start building connections. It took place in The Newman Arms pub. I met an animator called Benjamin Lane, who works at Framestore and I managed to get feedback on my animation.

Animation

This is the animation I showed. The image shows drawings that Benjamin drew. They show the feedback he gave me. The feedback included things like paying attention to the line of action. The spine in my animation bearly moves and I needed to change the direction of the line of action. Other things included things like slow in and slow out on the arm.

Responce to Feedback

This is my response to the feedback. I feel like I still need to polish this animation more.

I liked going to this event I liked talking to animators and meeting people with similar interests. I would like to go again and try to find possible mentors.

I went to the event again and I managed to get feedback on one of my FMP shots. I chose to show the second shot with the child. It was very important for me to get feedback on this shot because I haven't had much experience animating children before. I wanted to make sure I got the mannerisms of a toddler and that I had a believable performance.

This is the shot that I showed. This time I got feedback from a DNEG animator called Marcus Taylor.

Feedback

-Pay attention to the slow in and slow out of the arcs of the arms, when putting down the bear and picking up the cookies

-When pulling the chair add slow in and slow out,  make it shake a little towards the end, so that it looks like she's struggling to pull it

-Add a smirk when she looks at the cookies

-Make more of an ark when she climbs onto the chair

-Watch out for broken wrists

-Extend the part when she leans down to get the cookie

-Push more of the the poses, when she gets up onto the table, spine is a bit straight

-Get her to lean more towards the chair when she is getting off the table

This is how I responded to the feedback. The second time going to this event I spoke to more people than the first. I feel like this event is very useful for creating connections and meeting new people. I think it's a very good opportunity to get to talk to people who work in industry. However, I do feel a little overwhelmed because there are a lot of people and it is a very small pub.
